MADURAI, SEPT. 8. Bala's five for 28 and 72 runs helped Mercury Cricket Club register a 72-run victory over Blooming XI in the Indian Bank-Madurai District Cricket Association first division `B' zone league here recently.

The scores (first division `B' Zone): Mercury CC 307 for eight in 50 overs (Gurusamy 31, R. Bala 72, Ravi 33, Ramamurthy 40 not out, Ramkumar 28, Manisekar 41, Sathish four for 41) bt Blooming XI 235 in 36 overs (Muneeswaran 27, Meenakshi 39, Madhan 27, Senthur 57, R. Bala five for 28).

A Zone: Majestic CC 174 in 40.2 overs (Saravana Sundareswaran 72 not out, N.C. Babu three for 30) lost to Kapil Devil CC 175 for eight in 40.2 overs (Murali Manohar 53, Rajesh four for 43).

Earlier results: SBOA CC 260 in 48.4 overs (Mari 28, Sikkander 96 not out, Rajkumar 30, Mohanraj four for 50) bt Majestic CC 184 in 31 overs (Saravanan 26, Rajesh 62, Sikkander five for 51, Ramesh three for 45).

Second division: Crescent CC 124 in 27.1 overs (Bala Nagendran 38, Prasanna three for 16) lost to Tirunagar CC 125 for five in 26 overs (Prabhu 27, Kumar four for 22).

King's CC 118 in 24.1 overs (Mathivanan 33, Kumar three for 26) lost to Crescent CC 119 for nine in 24.4 overs (Mathivanan three for 20).

Third division: Fenner CC 105 in 22.3 overs (Ramesh 31, P. Ramesh four for eight) lost Canara Bank CC 107 for four in 16.3 overs (Sudharsan 38 not out).

Oliva CC 158 in 22.4 overs (Jaikumar 37, Mohan 30, Muthuvel three for 35, Sasi three for 22) bt Jaihind CC 109 in 16 overs (Muthuvel 26).
