SAI `C' emerges champion

BANGALORE, SEPT. 8. Sports Authority of India `C' scored its third win on the trot to emerge champion in the State `B' division hockey tournament here on Wednesday. In the last round robin match of the tournament, SAI `C' beat Flying Hockey Club 3-0 to top the table with nine points. George Dominic (30th), Aravind Kumar (40th) and Samuel (45th) slotted home the goals for the winner.

Flying Hockey Club took the second spot in the four-team league with a better goal difference than the other two teams. All three teams Flying Hockey Club, BEL Colony Youth Association and BEML (KGF) had one win and three points each but Flying finished in the second spot, BCYA `A' in third and BEML (KGF) fourth on goal difference.

SAI `C' and Flying Hockey Club earn a promotion to the `A' division in next year's tournaments.

In the first match of the day, BEML (KGF) beat BCYA `A' 2-1. Vinayak Kumar put BCYA ahead in the third minute but BEML fought back to first restore parity through Somaiah (14th) and Ponnumadurai's penalty corner conversion in the 50th minute gave his side victory.
