BANGALORE, SEPT. 8. The protest by traders against the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike's new trade licence gathered momentum on Wednesday when a large number of traders belonging to different associations meeting to form the BMP Trade License Action Front. Pramila Nesargi, senior advocate, pointed out that there was no provision under the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act for the BMP to levy trade licence. B.K. Goyal, Chairman of the Action Front, said when Profession Tax was introduced in 1976, the municipalities collected it. When they became city corporations, the tax was collected from those who conducted the trade as a profession and the revenue went to the corporations. "Professional tax enrolment is nothing but a Trade Licence to carry on trading and there is no need for a separate trade licence," he said.
