This Day That Age
Over 1000 people are feared to have been killed in a 12-second earthquake which shattered the Algerian town of Orleansville early on September 9, and blasted open two dams across the Fodda river. Waters from the Fodda river flooded the surrounding farmlands. Many people were reported buried beneath the ruins of collapsed houses. Two hotels, two big blocks of workers' flats, a hospital and a railway station dissolved into a mass of rubble.
