Thanjavur
By Our Staff Reporter
THANJAVUR, SEPT. 9. Farmers of Thanjavur and Tiruvarur districts are sore over the inordinate delay in appointment of engineers in important positions in the Public Works Department (PWD) as it affects water management for samba cultivation. According to a progressive farmer, the posts of regional chief engineer, PWD, Headquarters, Tiruchi, the superintending engineer (SE), East Cauvery Basin, Thanjavur circle, the SE, Middle Cauvery Basin, Tiruchi, and the SE, West Cauvery Basin, Salem, have been vacant after the incumbents retired a month ago. The SE of the Veeranam project, Gnanadoss, is in-charge of all positions and junior engineers have to consult him on water management. Enquiries with the PWD deparment also confirmed the vacancies. Farmers want the posts filled immediately.
