AIADMK rally highlights Government's achievements

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, SEPT. 9. In keeping with the instructions of the Chief Minister and All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader, Jayalalithaa, ruling party cadres in north Chennai today took out a rally to highlight the Government's achievements.

For most of the afternoon, enthusiastic party cadres gathered and played popular film songs from MGR and Jayalalithaa's hit films of yesteryears. The Law Minister, D. Jayakumar, joined them in the evening and led a `padayatra.'

As part of the propaganda rally, the Minister listed the achievements of the Jayalalithaa regime and said the Chief Minister had conceived welfare programmes for every section of society.

The free distribution of cycles to girl students of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward classes, the enrichment of the nutritious noon meal scheme, the strengthening of the Public Distribution System and the cut in power tariff for domestic consumers were measures that came in for repeated mention.

Simultaneously, the AIADMK's local functionaries hit out at the "cheap politics" of the Opposition parties and lambasted the "dynastic politics" of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

Cycle rallies and padayatras are being organised by the AIADMK all over the State to not only focus on the "glories of Amma's rule" but also counter what the party calls "false propaganda by the Opposition."
