CHENNAI, SEPT. 9. The Kalki Krishnamurthi Memorial Awards were presented to two Carnatic vocalists here on Thursday. Ranjani and Gayathri, sisters, were honoured with a citation and a memento on the occasion, which marked Kalki Krishnamurthi's birth anniversary. The citation read out by Seetha Ravi, Editor, Kalki, said the artistes stuck to the rich cultural tradition and maintained their individuality. Giving away the awards, the film producer, A.V.M. Saravanan, recalled the close association between his father, A.V. Meiyappa Chettiar, and Kalki Krishnamurthi. Kalki Rajendran, managing trustee, and Anandhi Ramachandran, trustee, paid tributes to the sisters. Thanking the trust, Ranjani said the awards, instituted in memory of an eminent writer, would be an encouragement to her and Gayathri.
