TIRUCHI, SEPT. 9. The condition of patients admitted to the K.A.P. Government Medical College Hospital, who developed complications after consuming the Diethyl Carbamazine Citrate tablets, distributed by the Health Department as a precaution against filariasis, was improving gradually, official sources said. Three persons Thangam (90), Velu (65), and Srirangan (70), had died so far after taking the tablets. Among the rest, while one person, Kannan (75), was discharged today on request, 11 patients were likely to be discharged tomorrow, according to hospital sources. Though the condition of Chinnammal (65), who was referred to the Intensive Care Unit on Tuesday, continued to be critical, her response to stimuli today has provided hope, sources said. Meanwhile, with the admission today of two more persons, Banumathy (35) of Lalgudi, in the general ward, and a 10-year old boy, Gopal, said to be an epileptic, in the paediatric ward, the number of patients in the admission records of the hospital on account of taking the DEC tablets stands at 27.
