KOCHI, SEPT. 9. Mata Amritanandamayi has called for a one-minute prayer for world peace on September 21, conforming to the declaration by the United Nations as the Day to Pray for World Peace.

"No matter where you are on that day at 12 noon - whether you are at home, office, in the bathroom, the market, shopping centre - irrespective of your faith and religion, stop what you are doing, close your eyes and pray for one minute for world peace," said the Mata during a `satsangh' held as part of the on-going festival at the Brahmasthanam Temple here.

"Lakhs of devotees across the world will pray during that time for world peace," said a statement issued by the vice-chairman of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Swami Amritaswarupananda.

The Mata said, "We took solace in believing that the sagas of Hitler and Kamsa would not repeat themselves. Nonetheless, today we find those same old stories renewing themselves right in front of our eyes. It was only last week that terrorists in Russia killed innocent children."

So far external pathways were being pursued to find solace. It was time to search for answers within - turning towards God, she said. "Along with human efforts, we have to pray for God's grace to bring about peace."

Thousands of devotees took part in the community poojas held today. The festival will continue till Friday. The Mata will address the devotees at 11 a.m. and will see devotees individually from 12 noon to 4-30 p.m., and later at 9 p.m. onwards. A special Chowwa dosha nivarana pooja will be held at 5 p.m.
