Why not local talent?

Sir, — This refers to the Government's move of engaging experts from multilateral institutions in the consultative groups of the Planning Commission. It is unfortunate that even after 57 years of Independence we look to foreigners for guidance.

G.M. Venkataraman,
Chennai

Sir, — I echo the question, "Are we intellectually bankrupt?" (Sept. 8). The UPA Government is not living up to its commitment of `reforms with a human face.' Looks like it will go the way of `India Shining.'

Maggie Thomas,
Chennai

Sir, — It is gratifying to note that non-governmental organisations have raised their voice against the appointment of people from multilateral agencies on the Planning Commission's panels (Sept. 8). Chetan Pandit,
New Delhi
