CUDDAPAH: The Government College Contract Lecturers' Association members staged a relay hunger strike in front of the Collectorate on Friday demanding regularisation and job security.

Body found on railway track

NELLORE: The railway police authorities found a severed torso and head of an unidentified 30-year-old person on the track near Bhaktavastala Nagar of Nellore town on Friday. It is suspected to be a case of suicide. From the literature available on the body, it was presumed that the deceased was returning from the just concluded Krishna Pushkarams. He was wearing a cement colour `T' shirt and a black colour pant. Further investigation is on.

RI for former revenue official

HYDERABAD: A former senior assistant of Revenue Department, A. Sivasankaraiah, was sentenced to undergo one-year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 500 fine, as he was found guilty of charges in a corruption case. He was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials after accepting Rs. 300 bribe from a complainant on October 1, 1992, while working in the Bathalapalli Mandal Revenue Office in Anantapur district, a press release said.

Missing girl traced

KURNOOL: Four-year-old Pranitha, who went missing at Srisailam on August 31, was traced at Mandapet in East Godavari district. The girl was restored to her parents by the Superintendent of Police, V.R.K. Mohan Rao, here today.

RTC staff gesture

ANANTAPUR: Employees of APSRTC, Anantapur Region, have contributed Rs.1.04 lakhs to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund towards the medical aid for poor children suffering from heart ailments. The Region Manager of RTC, S. Dharma Reddy, handed over a DD for the amount to the district Collector, Y.V. Anuradha,on Wednesday.

Fee payment

CUDDAPAH: MBA and MCA students who have joined K.S.R.M. College of Engineering should pay miscellaneous fees of Rs. 6,000 and get their names registered, as classes will commence on September 13, said its principal, K.S.N. Reddy, on Friday. B. Tech. students should also pay a miscellaneous fee of Rs. 6,500 as their classes would begin on September 27, he added in a statement.

Contests for students

TIRUPATI: The Regional Science Centre, in association with the local chapter of Institution of Engineers, is organising a series of competitions for school children on the occasion of "Engineer's Day'', observed in memory of Bharat Ratna M.Visweswaraiah. According to the RSC project coordinator, Madan Gopal, a painting contest will be held at the centre on the topic `An engineer at work' on September 12, a college-level science quiz on 13th and an open house quiz on general science on 14th.

MADANAPALLE: Rotary Club, Madanapalle, and Narayana Cardiac Hospital, Bangalore, are jointly holding a free medical camp for cardiac diseases at M.L.L. Hospital on Saturday 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to V. Reddenna, secretary, Rotary Club.
