HYDERABAD, SEPT 11. The foundation stone for the Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City project proposed at Parawada in Visakhapatnam district would be laid by the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on September 25. This was decided at a review meeting held by the Chief Minister with the Minister for Commercial Taxes, K. Ramakrishna, and other officials on Pharma City here on Saturday, according to a press release. It said the project would be developed in an extent of 2,200 acres in the public-private partnership mode. The initial cost of the project has been estimated at Rs. 276.36 crores. The project would be developed by a private developer on BOOT (Build Own Operate and Transfer) basis. A special feature of the Pharma City is the proposed development of a housing layout within 4 to 5 kms. This would also be provided by the private developer. The release said the Chief Minister directed Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) officials to grow commercial forestry within a radius of 1 km around Pharma City, which would be declared "No Development Zone." This is in accordance with the advise given by the Technical Committee of the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Board. Mr. Reddy also directed officials to take care of water supply needs of Pharma City by June 2005, it said.
