CUDDAPAH, SEPT 11. The district CITU secretary, A. Raghunatha Reddy, charged the UPA and Congress Governments in the Centre and State with adopting anti-employee and worker policies, without realising that the people routed the NDA and TDP for following similar policies. The people's mandate favoured a change in policies, improved security and welfare measures, he said and urged the UPA Government to give up moves to reduce the retirement age and sustain social security through provident fund and pensions. The people expected the UPA Government to ensure increase in their purchasing capacity, safeguard industries and set up new ones and generate employment for youth, he maintained. The pruning of employees and VRS policy of the NDA were rejected by the people, he stated.
Wage revision
He urged the Centre to initiate steps to expedite wage revision for bank officials and employees as the profits and per-employee business of banks had grown. Foreign direct investment in the insurance sector, moves for disinvestment in NTPC and cut in interest of PF reflected the diktats of the World Bank, the CITU leader alleged.
Common man affected
The rise in inflation to a record 8.33 per cent, rise in petroleum prices and skyrocketing prices of essential commodities were affecting the common man, Mr. Raghunatha Reddy said. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, gave assurances to employees, youth and women before elections, but was acting contrary to them, he alleged. The Principal Secretary of Finance's circular to all departments to act as per the World Bank experts' advice was an indication of the future in store, he stated. He resented the contributory pension scheme.
