Cuddapah
By Our Staff Reporter
CUDDAPAH, SEPT. 11. The Cuddapah District Rythu Sangham general secretary, D. Chandramouleeswara Reddy, on Saturday charged agricultural officials with being negligent in curbing sale of complex fertilisers at higher prices in the district. The paddy farmers required 28:28:28, 20:20:20, 14:35:14, DAP, Super and Urea varieties of fertilisers at this stage, but fertiliser companies were not supplying the quantities allotted by the Government to Cuddapah district, he alleged. As a result fertiliser dealers were selling 20:20:20 at Rs. 190 to Rs. 200, as against the normal price of Rs. 165 and Super at Rs. 390, as against its normal price of Rs. 365.
No supply?
When questioned by farmers, the dealers were claiming to have procured the fertiliser stocks from Renigunta and Hyderabad, as the fertiliser companies were not supplying those fertilisers to the district, Mr. Reddy stated. He recalled that Agriculture Department officials failed to ensure supply of the NDLR 8 and NLR 145 variety of paddy seeds earlier, leading to farmers getting seeds from Nandyal, Kalahasti and Nellore by incurring higher expenditure.
Stir threat
Charging officials with planning diversion of 2,300 tonnes of 28:28:28 complex fertiliser allotted to the district, he warned that a stir would be launched unless the idea was given up. He asked the in charge Collector, G. Jayalakshmi, and the Joint Director of Agriculture, Nazer Ali, to take steps to supply the required fertiliser.
