COIMBATORE, SEPT. 11. Tamil Nadu's V. Vignesh and Janani Suresh walked away with the under-18 boys' and girls' titles respectively at the Indian Oil AITA talent series junior tennis tournament at the Sastri Maidan courts here on Saturday. Vignesh trounced Sudanwa Sitaram 6-1, 6-0 while Janani Suresh had to fight hard to beat Chennai's Kelcy Sundaram 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. In the first set Janani was up 5-3 and seemed to be in control. But Kelcy fought back bravely to take the set 7-5. In the second set, Janani looked to keep a lot more balls in. That really unsettled Kelcy, who surrendered the set 3-6. In the third set, Janani once again held a 4-0 advantage but allowed Kelcy to claw back to 4-3. However, Janani rallied well from the baseline to wrap up the set 6-4 and with it the match.
Girls: Under-18: Singles: Janani Suresh bt Kelcy Sundaram 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. Under-14 singles: J. Kesika bt T. Ilakkiya 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
