VIZIANAGARAM, SEPT. 11. Five robbers in the age group of 25-30 relieved two petrol pump operators of Rs. 5,000-odd and a van driver of Rs. 1,500 at a petrol refilling station at Narupeta village under Bhogapuram police station limits at 3 a.m. on Saturday.
Rs. 5,000 snatched
According to the Superintendent of Police, Swati Lakra, the miscreants, speaking Hindi and Oriya, threatened the petrol pump operators on night duty at Sri Srinivasa Service centre with a toy pistol, tied them with ropes behind the petrol bunk and snatched over Rs. 5,000 from them. When a van arrived at the bunk for refilling fuel, the robbers attacked the van driver and robbed Rs. 1,500 from him. Later, they made a vain attempt to rob a truck driver sleeping in his stationary vehicle. When the truck driver raised an alarm he was assaulted with an iron rod.
Toy pistol
Meanwhile, watchman of the petrol bunk gathered villagers from Simmapeta to nab them but the miscreants threatened the villagers with the toy pistol and escaped under cover of darkness. On receiving information, the Superintendent of Police, the Divisional SP, T. Bhaskara Rao, and the Circle Inspector, Phalguna Rao, rushed to the spot and pressed a dog squad and Clues team. The dog lost scent at a bus stop on Akkivaram Road, she added.
