State SC Commission chief felicitated

VISAKHAPATNAM, SEPT. 11. The Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Commission, Justice K. Punnaiah, has advised lawyers to visit villages every month and educate rural people on the latter's rights and importance of courts of law which would help prevent all social evils. He was addressing a meeting of the SC Advocates' Welfare Association on Saturday.

Felicitating Mr. Punnaiah, the association members submitted a memorandum to him seeking implementation of the rule of reservations in the appointments of Government Pleaders, Assistant Government Pleaders, Public Prosecutors, Additional Public Prosecutors and standing counsel in public sector undertakings.

Similarly, four junior lawyers under administrative justice were being appointed for each district on a monthly allowance of Rs. 500, the association pointed out and sought appointment of SC and ST lawyers to these posts on an enhanced allowance of Rs. 3,000 a month.

The association president, Saka Rajendra Prasad, chaired the meeting. Earlier, its working president, K. Madan Mohan, and the secretary V. Chinna Rao, welcomed the gathering.
