Visakhapatnam
By Our Special Correspondent
VISAKHAPATNAM, SEPT. 11. The senior Congress leader and Visakhapatnam-I MLA, Dronamraju Satyanarayana, has strongly condemned the attitude of the Union Minister and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who had reportedly threatened to "drag to the streets'' the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, and the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on the Statehood issue. In a statement here on Saturday, the veteran Congress leader said that although all, including Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao, were aware that the Congress high command preferred a second State Reorganisation Commission (SRC) as far as Telangana was concerned, the Union Minister was insisting that a bill in the Lok Sabha was enough for creating Telengana, with the aim of tarnishing the image of the Congress.
Restraint advised
``Recently he has claimed that Ms. Gandhi is a goddess. Now he says that he would drag the AICC president and UPA chairperson as well as Dr. Reddy to streets. It appears that KCR has lost his mental balance,'' he stated. Mr. Satyanarayana pointed out that several aspects have to be looked into before clearing Statehood. The opinions of all parties also need to be collected and if Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao was so much interested in Telangana, he could as well quit from the Union Cabinet and direct his Ministers in the State to resign and then take up the Telangana issue, he felt. The Congress leader advised the TRS president to refrain from politics of blackmail till such time the AICC president was apprised of the need for the second SRC and the latter took a decision. He also congratulated the Chief Minister on taking up the Polavaram left canal project at cost of Rs.1,350 crores to which the people of Visakhapatnam city were waiting for, for a little over a half-a-century. ``The credit goes to Dr. Reddy who stood by his promise which he made during his last visit to Visakhapatnam that Polavaram project would be started at the earliest," he said.
