Congress objects to TDP criticising YSR

HYDERABAD: The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has taken exception to the Telugu Desam Party's criticism against the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and accused the TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, of encouraging faction feuds.

The CLP secretaries -- S. Gangaram, I. Pratap Reddy and Konda Surekha -- in a statement on Saturday ridiculed the TDP demand for filing cases against Dr. Reddy under the PD Act. They said even now it was not too late for the TDP to stop mudslinging and politically exploiting the situation and cooperate with the Government to end faction violence and pave the way for peace.

LAWCET admission counselling schedule

TIRUPATI: Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (SPMVV), which conducted the Law Common Entrance Test (LAWCET-2004), has announced the admission schedule for counselling university-area wise.

According to a release by the convener, T. V. Subba Rao, counselling for provisional admission will be held on the following dates: Nagarjuna - Sept. 13, 14; Sri Venkateswara - Sept. 16, 17; Osmania - Sept. 20, 21, 22 and 23; Andhra - Sept. 26, 27, 28 and 29. Counselling will be conducted in the respective colleges for which the candidates have opted for and on the dates allotted to the college concerned.

Appointment of physical education vidya volunteers

HYDERABAD: The School Education Commissioner and Director has directed all the District Educational Officers except Hyderabad to appoint Physical Education Vidya Volunteers in the vacant posts of Physical Education Teachers in the Secondary Schools in the State.

The Andhra Pradesh Teachers' Federation in a release said that the orders to this effect had been issued on Saturday and the copies of the order had been sent to the District Collectors and School Education Regional Joint Directors.

Government to boost Khadi industries

HYDERABAD: The State Government is as contemplating large scale promotion of Khadi and Village Industries to generate employment to rural masses, especially among women, the Minister for Mines and Geology, P. Sabita Indira Reddy, said here on Saturday.

Inaugurating a training programme under Swarna Jayanti Shehari Rozgar Yojana Scheme, she said the programme would cover youth in the age group of 18 to 35 years and impart training in 12 different trades including rexine and leather goods making, welding and fabrication work, candle and chalk piece making.

For the benefit of trainees, Rural Industries Consultancy Services cell was also started.

Earlier, she laid the foundation stone for a Government hospital building and a DWCRA Mahila Bank in Rajendranagar Municipality.

Panel to monitor post-production activity

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh State Film, Television and Theatre Development Corporation (APSFDC) has constituted a three-member committee to visit recording theatres in Hyderabad daily and monitor post-production activity.

It has been formed to verify the incentive claims seeking tax concessions made by producers of Telugu films. The State Government had issued an order vide G.O. Ms. No. 391/2002, making it compulsory for producers to utilise facilities for recording, re-recording and mixing available in the State and avail the incentives offered.

The committee will comprise S. Dasaratha from the Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce, D. Balaji, Cine Musicians Union, and Narahari Maddilety, on behalf of the APSFDC.

It will visit all the recording facilities in Hyderabad and submit a daily report, verifying the claims of producers in their applications, to the APSFDC.

Constable shoots himself dead

KURNOOL: An armed reserve constable, Ramudu (40), shot himself dead with a service revolver here on Saturday. According to reports, the constable who was attached to bomb disposal squad was reportedly peeved over his transfer to Warangal.

He shot himself dead in the police parade ground at around 4 p.m. The police are investigating.

Two Intermediate students drowned

CUDDAPAH: Two Intermediate students of Cuddapah town drowned in the spillway of the Buggavanka reservoir on Saturday, when they went for a swim. The students have been identified as, C. Sudarshan Reddy of Yerramukkapalle and Pavan Kumar Reddy of Cooperative Colony. Their bodies were fished out on Saturday. The Chintakommadinne police registered a case.

Fake currency racket busted

Kakinada: The Razole police on Saturday nabbed three persons allegedly involved in a fake currency racket while they were moving under suspicious circumstances near the bus stand. The police recovered 30 fake notes Rs. 100 denomination from their possession.

During interrogation the trio confessed to having been involved in printing fake notes in the house of one, Geddam Murthy Raju (36) in Daba Street. Based on their information the raided the house of Murthy Raju and found a computer along with a scanner and printer of Japanese make and a bundle of white papers used for printing of fake currency.

Colour cartridges were also seized from the premise. The arrested have been identified as -- Gaddam Isaac (21), Kusuma Krishna Rao (52) and Talluru Satyanarayana (30). The police registered a case and are on the lookout for Murthy Raju who is reportedly absconding.

Low pressure persists

Hyderabad: The low pressure area over the north-west Bay of Bengal persisted for the second day on Saturday and lay off the north Orissa-Gangetic West Bengal coast with impact on Andhra Pradesh.

The southwest monsoon was active for the day in Telangana and Rayalaseema, resulting in rain in many. Nizamabad recorded 7 cm rainfall.

The other chief amounts of rainfall during the 24-hour period ending on Saturday morning were: Nizamsagar 5 cm, Allagadda, Dowlaiswaram 4 cm each, Bhadrachalam, Kaleswaram, Coonavaram, Pargi, Proddatur 3 cm each and Chittoor, Kalingapatnam, Eturu Nagaram, Kamalapuram and Rayachoti each 2 cm.

The forecast is light to moderate rain likely at a few places in coastal Andhra, Telangana and Rayalaseema on Sunday.

Traders held

CUDDAPAH: The Cuddapah police arrested two traders and seized 50 fake Mysore Sandal soap bars from them, the Cuddapah DSP, M. Ramprasada Rao, said on Saturday. The traders, Raja Chandramohan and Dharmaraja Mohanlal, confessed to selling the fake soaps and of cheating were booked against them, he added.

Hunger strike enters day 3

CUDDAPAH: The indefinite hunger strike by the Yerracheruvu Parirakshana Committee members at Mydukur demanding conversion of Yerracheruvu tank into a summer storage tank entered the third day on Saturday. The protesters led by the committee convenor, M.J. Subbarami Reddy, staged a rasta roko at Mydukur cross roads in which the TDP leader, Krishna, the BJP leader, J. Narasimhulu, and farmers' leader, Narayana Reddy, took part.

Call to Congress

CUDDAPAH: The A.P. Girijana Sangham district president, K. Munaiah, on Saturday asked the Congress to fulfil its pre-electoral promises for the welfare of Scheduled Tribes. Mr. Munaiah hoisted the sangham flag in Ramakrishnanagar ST Colony, Mrutyunjayakunta, Rajiv Gandhinagar, Ganjikunta colony, Ramanjaneyapuram, Putlampalle and Saibabanagar areas today. The Kulavivaksha Vyatireka Porata Sangham district secretary, C. Babu, urged the STs to participate in the sangham's State mahasabha in Hyderabad on October 5 and 6.

Sevagram coming up

NELLORE: A Sevagram exclusively devoted to the uplift and proper care of mentally retarded children is coming up at Kakutur, near old FCI godowns, Venkatachalam mandal of Nellore district. It will be inagurated by the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, P. Lakshmi, on Tuesday. Established by the `Vasantha Lakshmi Charitbale Trust and Research Centre,' the complex will have a free multi super speciality hospital, orphanage, old age home, research and rehabilitation centre for exceptional children and centre for women's empowerment.

Appointed

TIRUPATI: The Bharatiya Janata Party has appointed M.V.S. Mani of Tirupati to the State Executive Committee of its Dalit Morcha.
