New DTC service flagged off

NEW DELHI SEPT. 11. The Delhi Transport Minister, Haroon Yusuf, flagged off a new Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus route from Hindu Rao Hospital to Jama Masjid at a function here on Friday.

On the occasion, Mr. Yusuf said the new bus service would provide better connectivity to people residing in the Walled City area. The first trip of the new service will start from Jama Masjid at 8 a.m. while the last trip will be at 7-15 p.m. And from Hindu Rao Hospital, the first trip will start at 8-45 a.m. and the last would be at 8-45 p.m.

Chaupals inaugurated

NEW DELHI SEPT. 11. The Development Minister, Raj Kumar Chauhan, inaugurated 11 newly constructed chaupals at Tikri Khurd, Singhola, Bakauli, Bakhtawarpur, Palla, Mazra, Narela, Sannot, and Khera Khurd in North Delhi on Friday. The chaupals have been constructed by the Delhi Irrigation & Flood Control Department at a cost of Rs.1.25 crore.

"The Government has identified 26 rural villages in different rural blocks in Delhi for developing them as the model villages," Mr. Chauhan said. The East Delhi MP, Sandeep Dikshit, presided over the inaugural function.

Foundation stone laid

NEW DELHI SEPT. 11. Delhi's Lieutenant-Governor, B.L. Joshi, today laid the foundation stone of a guest house and commercial complex at Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT) in Dwarka.

The Principal Secretary (Training and Technical Education), Delhi Government, R.S. Sethi, and the NSIT Director, Ranjit Singh, were also present on the occasion.

The commercial complex has been designed to cater to the day-to-day needs of the students and faculty members residing in the NSIT complex. The guesthouse will meet the long-standing requirement of NSIT for decent accommodation to visiting scientists, engineers and academicians.

HelpAge new venture

NEW DELHI SEPT. 11. HelpAge India has tied up with the National Insurance Company to sell non-life insurance products and services across the country. The Joint Secretary (Banking and Insurance) Ministry of Finance, G.C. Chaturvedi, was the chief guest on the occasion. He lauded the two organisations for this new venture.

The income from this association will be used by HelpAge for its various projects for senior citizens. These comprise support to old age homes, day care centres, health care, restoration of vision, adoption of needy elders, livelihood support and lobbying for rights of the elders.

`Ozone Day' celebrated

NEW DELHI SEPT. 11. Manav Sthali School in New Rajindra Nagar organised several events earlier this week to coincide with the International Day for Preservation of the Ozone Layer.

In view of the continuing depletion of the ozone layer and its possible long term consequences to all forms of life, the School has been organised various programmes like poster painting and slogan writing competitions to spread awareness among the students.

The school's founder principal, Mamta V. Bhatnagar, urged the students to take all steps to save the earth from the harmful effects of the ultra violet rays of the sun.
