BCCI special general body meeting today

CHENNAI, SEPT. 11. A special general body meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be held here on Sunday to consider a request signed by 27 members to invite Jagmohan Dalmiya as the Board's Patron-in-Chief and empower him to attend all International Cricket Council (ICC) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meetings till 2007 in a non-voting advisory capacity.

Mr. Dalmiya's three-year term as Board President ends later this month. He is to be extended the new post through a special resolution in recognition of his services to the game in the country in general and to the BCCI in particular. There is a provision in the BCCI Constitution to appoint a Patron-in-Chief.

Mr. Dalmiya's induction is likely to come about at the 75th annual general meeting in Kolkata on September 29 and 30.

The afternoon session of the meeting on Sunday will consider and approve the proposed change of name of the Bihar Cricket Association to Jharkhand State Cricket Association, and also consider and adopt, with or without modifications, the proposed amendments to the rules and regulations of the BCCI.

The Board's Marketing Committee will also meet to discuss the television rights issue. The BCCI Secretary, S.K. Nair, said, "We will update and review the television rights situation. The members need to be kept abreast of the happenings. What we know now is what we have read in the newspapers or heard on TV." — Our Principal Correspondent
