IT aptitude test

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 11 .An ambitious move towards catching the best IT brains in the country early on, the first nationwide talent hunt for "IT manpower'' is now under way, with NIIT launching its National IT Aptitude Test (NITAT 2004) for college students across the country this September.

The test will be held on September 19 at 200 NIIT centres in 100 cities across the country. The exam, according to NIIT, will not just gauge the aptitude of students for the IT sector but also serve as a yardstick to determine their competence. Students interested in taking the test can register online at the website www.niit.com or at their nearest NIIT centre.

"This initiative is an attempt to meet the large and growing manpower needs of the IT industry The reputation enjoyed by the Indian IT industry coupled with the outsourcing needs of global companies has led to a rapid resurgence in the IT sector. This manpower requirement will be impossible to fulfil without special effort,'' says Dr. Smarajit Dey, head of NIIT's Education Business.

Students from the North Zone desirous of assessing their aptitude for IT can take the test in Agra, Ajmer, Allahabad, Ambala, Amritsar, Bareilly, Bhopal, Bilaspur, Chandigarh, Dehra Dun, Delhi, Dharamsala, Gorakhpur, Gwalior, Hamirpur, Hisar, Indore, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Jammu, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Karnal, Kota, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Mathura, Meerut, Patiala, Raipur, Saharanpur, Shimla, Srinagar, Udaipur or Varanasi.

Coming close on the heels of the launch of NIIT's industry-endorsed GNIIT curriculum that has been co-designed with the industry, the IT Aptitude Test was initially piloted by NIIT in West Bengal, with support from the Government of the State and a leading publication house.
