NEW DELHI, SEPT. 11. The Delhi Diabetes Research Centre is undertaking a special initiative this year for young diabetics by launching a nationwide advocacy campaign under the aegis of the Foundation for Young Diabetics (FYD). The FYD has been formed with the aim of protecting the interests of young diabetics and ensuring successful implementation of this project. It will form a working group comprising experts on diabetes. Speaking about the programme which will be inaugurated here in the Capital on October 1, diabetologist and chairman of the Delhi Diabetics Research Centre, Ashok Jhingan, said: "Some of the key issues affecting young diabetics in the country will be addressed during the campaign. A 24-hour toll-free diabetes helpline, providing information regarding the ailment, will also be launched. There are also plans to set up a matrimonial websites for young diabetics to assist them in finding a suitable match, besides conducting programmes among school children and educating them on prevention of lifestyle disorders like obesity which lead to diabetes and other metabolic conditions.'' The nationwide advocacy campaign will be stretched over a three-year period and cover various issues concerning the disease among the young in the country.
