Partly cloudy

CHENNAI, SEPT. 11. The sky will be partly cloudy on Sunday with the possibility of shower or thundershower in some areas during evening or night.

On Saturday, Nungambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 33.1 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24.3 degrees Celsius, while Meenambakkam recorded 33.2 and 24.2 degrees Celsius respectively. Humidity at Nungambakkam was 75 per cent and at Meenambakkam, 72 per cent.

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Vepery, Anna Salai, Sowcarpet (East), Mannady, Muthialpet, Kilpauk, Flower Bazar, Egmore and Gummidipoondi (HT and LT consumers) areas.

Workshop

The Indo-Australian Chamber of Commerce is organising a workshop on marketing skills for technical executives on September 16. The one-day workshop to be held in association with the Export-Import Bank of India will focus on marketing techniques and soft skills required to clinch orders and close deals. Patriotic songs played

Mahakavi Bharathi's patriotic songs were played and his portrait garlanded on the poet's death anniversary. The programme was conducted under the auspices of the Chromepet New Colony Residents' Welfare Society. The association secretary, K. Subramanian, read out a book on the poet written by lyricist Vairamuthu.

Honoured

The Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Schools Alumini Association honoured four octogenarian retired teachers and two distinguished alumni at a function on September 8.

The alumni were tennis player Ramanathan Krishnan and theatre artiste R. S. Manohar and the teachers honoured were N. Srinivasan, V. Krishnamurthy, Rajaraman Pillai and K. Ramanujam. M. Anandakrishnan, Chairman, Madras Institute of Development Studies, participated in the function.

`Kasouti 2004'

The DRB Calavala Cunnan Chetty's Hindu College held `Kasouti 2004,' an inter-collegiate and inter-school festival of the Hindi Department. Around 300 students from 18 schools and 16 colleges participated in the competitions.
