Hi-tech police control room set up in Guntur

By Our Staff Reporter

GUNTUR, SEPT. 11. A State-of-the-art police control room, the first of its kind in Andhra Pradesh was inaugurated by the Director General of Police, S.R. Sukumara, at the District Police Office in the city on Saturday.

The control room with a computerised remote surveillance and automatic vehicle locator system was set up with an expenditure of Rs. 15 lakhs of which Rs. 10 was donated by the Ramineni Foundation in memory of the NRI, Ramineni Ayyanna Chowdhary.

The DGP announced a grant of Rs.10 lakhs from the department for completing and improving the project that helps the police keep surveillance over an area of 49 square km. of Guntur city with the help of NRSI satellite imaging with a one-metre resolution.

The names of vehicle owners along with their addresses and telephone numbers have been fed into the computer to match with the coordinates of a certain door no.

`Trendsetter'

"This system is a trend-setting one, which we could not implement even in Hyderabad," said Mr. Sukumara and added that telephone numbers with the addresses also had been fed into it, which would help police identify from where a distress call came along with the exact location so that response time could be reduced.

The Superintendent of Police, Ravi Shankar Ayyannar, gave a power-point presentation of the entire system explaining its salient features. The People Security and J&M Technology helped the district police implement the system.

Kudos to district police

The Guntur MP, Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, while congratulating the District Police for the smooth conduct of the Krishna Pushkarams, thanked Mr. Ayyannar for implementing such a system in the city and promised any additional help needed from the MPLADs.
