Inquiry into Dalit girl's death sought
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD,
SEPT. 11
. The Andhra Pradesh Mahila Samakhya on Saturday demanded a comprehensive inquiry into the alleged suicide of a 12-year-old Dalit girl, Uttaramma, in a house at HIG Colony in Baghlingampally on September 7.
Uttaramma, who was from Damra village in Nalgonda district, was found hanging from the ceiling in the house of N. Krishna Reddy, where she used to work as a maid-servant.
Mr. Reddy had lodged a complaint with the Chikkadpally police stating that Uttaramma had committed suicide.
The Samakhya members said it was case of suspicious death and an in-depth probe should be conducted.
They argued that there was no reason for a 12-year-old girl to commit suicide.
The Samakhya has written a letter to the Home Minister, K. Jana Reddy, in this regard.
