NEW DELHI, SEPT. 11. One of the country's smallest States today announced medical coverage up to Rs. 1 lakh a year for each of its 1.35 million residents starting from next month. The announcement was made by the Goa Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar, at a conference of the Chief Ministers of the States ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party. The coverage will be provided on payment of a Rs. 100 a person. Beneficiaries of the Dayanand Social Security Scheme will get an additional Rs. 300 a month towards medicines for treatment of diabetes and high blood pressure. Dayanand Bandodkar was Goa's first Chief Minister. The scheme called Universal Mediclaim would be launched on October 2, 2004, Mr. Parrikar told counterparts and delegates from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Orissa.
