Lingayats have got a raw deal, says MP

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, SEPT. 12. The State has had five Veerashaiva Chief Ministers, yet the

sizeable community and the north Karnataka region did not become politically empowered, the Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Belgaum, Suresh Angadi, has said

Participating in the tenth anniversary celebrations of the Sri Sharanabasaveshwara Seva Samiti, Mr. Angadi said that just as the lot of the Lingayat community had not improved despite its contributions in all fields, the north Karnataka areas, which had the largest population of the community, remained backward and underdeveloped.

They had received very little attention from the Government in terms of allocation of funds, policies or investment, he alleged.

Even the long felt need for a High Court Bench in the region, and the growing clamour for it had fallen on deaf ears. There was no one to espouse the cause of the region, Mr Angadi said.

On the good work being done by the Sharanabasaveshwara Seva Samiti, and other institutions, Mr. Angadi said that it was proof of the fact that one should follow one's dharma, no matter what one's profession or vocation was.

The function was attended by Sri Veera Sangameshwara Shivacharya of Chalageri, Kushtagi and Sri Rudramuni Swamy of Moorusaviramath, Hubli.
