Helmets to be made compulsory in twin cities
HYDERABAD,
SEPT. 12.
The State Government has decided to make wearing of helmets mandatory for all two-wheeler drivers in the twin cities from November 3. However, pillion riders have been given exemption `for the time being.'
This was announced by the Transport Minister, S. Santosh Reddy, after watching a short film on traffic awareness and road safety presented by the Hyderabad City Police on Sunday.
The Minister later told The Hindu that the helmet rule would be extended to Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam cities in the second phase and that all other districts would be covered subsequently.
Mr. Reddy maintained that the "helmet rule'' had been cleared by the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
