NAGERCOIL, SEPT. 12. The Government has decided to give a facelift to Kanyakumari, to attract both foreign and domestic tourists, the Collector, Rajesh Lakhoni, has said. Addressing a meeting held here on Saturday, he said the administration planned to set up decorated huts from the watchtower to Manaltheri (along the shore) at Kanyakumari, at a cost of Rs. 7 lakh. A sum of Rs. 5 lakhs would be spent on filling the low-level areas with sand along the shore. The Department of Tourism, he said, was asked to prepare a project for laying a footpath from the watchtower to Manaltheri. The Government also decided to develop infrastructure at Mathur Thotti Palam, Pechipparai and Maruthuvalmalai, he said. A sum of Rs. 12 lakhs was allotted for setting up a children's park and improving amenities at Mathur Thotti Palam. There was a lot of sand dunes within the Pechipparai dam. It was decided to set up huts on the sand dunes and to operate boat services.
