BANGALORE, SEPT. 12. A special meeting of the Kannada cinema industry convened by the Kannada Film Producers' Association (KFPA) has resolved to defer the launch of a "Gokak-type agitation to save Kannada films" in view of the K.P. Pandey Committee meeting on Monday. The president of the KFPA, Basanth Kumar Patil, told presspersons here today that the meeting decided to wait for the outcome of the Pandey Committee meeting before taking a decision on the proposed agitation. It felt that the "policy" allowing screening of new non-Kannada films only after seven weeks of their release in the respective States would help Kannada films. This had been proved in the past few weeks, he added. The former Minister and exhibitor, D.K. Shivakumar, said the "policy" would augur well for the future of Kannada cinema. However, only a well-defined film policy would help solve the problems faced by the industry. Involving politicians in finding solutions to cinema-related problems would only jeopardise the industry, he added. Vishnuvardhan and Ambarish, actors, and Paravathamma Rajkumar, wife of Rajkumar, actor, participated in the meeting.
