Award to be presented to Keezhpadam

THRISSUR, SEPT. 12. The Subramaniam Centenary Award will be presented to the Kathakali maestro, Keezhpadam Kumaran Nair, at a function at the Irinjalakuda Municipal Town Hall on September 15. Bharathanatyam dancer Padma Subramaniam will inaugurate. The chairman of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, Kavalam Narayana Panicker, will be the chief guest. Ambalapuzha Rama Varma will preside.

O.M. Anujan will speak on Mr. Kumaran Nair's contribution to Kathakali. Thomas Unniyadan, MLA, veteran Kathakali performer Kalamandalam Padmanabhan Nair and percussionist Kalamandalam Kesavan will speak.

Kathakali plays

The meeting will be followed by the staging of the Kathakali plays, `Kuchela Vritham' and `Duryodhana Vadhom'. The actors include Kalamandalam Padmanabhan Nair, Sadanam Krishnankutty, Nelliyodu Vasudevan Namboodiri, Kavunkal Divakaran, Kalanilayam Gopalakrishnan, Sadanam Harikumar, Kalamandalam Ramachandran Unnithan, Vellinezhi Haridasan, Kalamandalam Manoj Kumar, Pradeep Kumar and Harinarayanan. The musicians are Kalamandalam Hyderali, Balachandran, Jayaprakash, Kalanilayam Rajeev and Sinu.
