The CPI(M) floor leader, Nomula Narasimhaiah talks to a handloom weaver at Varadaiahpalem in Chittoor district on Sunday.
TIRUPATI. Sept. 12. The floor leader of the CPI(M) in the Assembly, Nomula Narasimhaiah, lashed out at the Central and State Governments for backtracking on poll promises. Addressing a public meeting at Varadaiahpalem near the Sathyavedu on the Andhra Pradesh-Tamilnadu border, about 65 kms from here, Narasimhaiah said the CPI(M) would not remain a silent spectator if the Governments continued its `volte-face' policies. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy's Government came in for scathing criticism for the "dilution" of free power promise.
`CMP violated'
The CPI(M) leader was also highly critical about the `flagrant violation' of the CMP by the Central government on the hiking of the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) cap in the insurance, telecommunication and civil aviation sectors. He also assailed the Centre for its frequent and indiscriminate enhancement of petroleum products' price. The State Government drew flak from him for giving marching orders to about 10,000 personnel in the co-operative sector. Mr. Narasimhaiah also dropped in at the hut of a weaver and listened to his woes. He demanded that the relief package being extended to the farmers must be made available to handloom weavers as well. The party's district secretary, K. Murali and leaders, Venkatarathnam, and Harikrishna were present.
