Kurnool
By Our Staff Reporter
KURNOOL, SEPT. 12. The district president of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Somisetty Venkateswarlu, alleged substandard works at Pushkaram ghats in Kurnool district. Talking to reporters here on Sunday, he said at most of the ghats tiles were broken and concrete peeled off in just 12 days. In some places, the works were incomplete. He said if water were released from the Srisailam dam, there would be no trace of ghats at Lingalagattu.
Probe sought
He said Rs. 13 crores was spent on Pushkaram works, but the actual expenditure would not be more than Rs. 5 crores. Mr. Venkateswarlu said officials could do little to ensure quality due to political interference and added that the Congress leaders had pressured the officials and got the works awarded to their followers. The Government should inquire into the matter and pull up those responsible for the "fraud," he demanded. The party leader, Prabhakar, was present.
