HUBLI, SEPT. 12. The `tiranga yatra,' which entered Maharashtra today, is expected to come under the scanner of the Election Commission in view of the fiat issued to political parties against taking electoral advantage through the yatra. The yatra headed for Maharashtra after the BJP leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Uma Bharti, addressed her last meeting in Karnataka at Bhalki in Bidar district on Sunday afternoon. The yatra has triggered speculation about its impact in Maharashtra because of the remarks made by Ms. Bharti before her departure to that State. The BJP leader that she would adhere to the guidelines of the Election Commission, but left everybody guessing on the implications of the participation of Shiv Sena volunteers in the yatra. She also said that anybody was welcome to join the yatra, including the Maharashtra Chief Minister, Sushil Kumar Shinde. True to her word, Ms. Bharti adhered to the code of conduct while covering the Bidar parliamentary constituency on Saturday. She refrained from making observations on the elections in Bidar and briefly addressed a rally at Humnabad. However, the rally planned in Bidar late in the night was cancelled as the Election Commission has prohibited such meetings beyond 10 p.m. She did not stay in the government guest-house during her tour of the constituency.
