Commission on Centre-State relations soon: Patil

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 12. The Government has proposed to set up two commissions to look into the Centre-State relations, including river water-sharing, and to examine administrative reforms that were reviewed four decades ago.

"Yes, we propose to set up a commission which will look into the Centre-State relations in view of the changed circumstances," the Union Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, told PTI here. "We need to see as to how a better cooperation between the States and the Centre emerge," he said.

Mr. Patil said that the Commission would conceptualise the entire gamut of the Centre-State relations and prepare a paper after which the Government would examine it.

Water-sharing

Asked whether the issue of sharing river waters also formed the part of terms of reference of the proposed Commission, Mr. Patil said: ``The terms and references are yet to be fixed but river-water sharing will be a part of that."

The Government felt the need for the new Commission in view of the "sea changes" in the polity and in the economy.
