VELLORE, SEPT.12. A 14-year-old boy of Kanchi near Tiruvannamalai who consumed Diethyl Carbamazine Citrate tablets on September 5 died on Friday night. The DEC tablets were administered to the people of Tiruvannamalai district as part of an anti-filariasis drive. According to the Deputy Director of Health Services, Tiruvannamalai, Vadivelan, enquiries revealed that Rajasekhar developed fits, resulting in vomiting on September 3. He took DEC tablets only on September 5 and was examined on September 10 by a neurologist of a private hospital at Adiyur near Tiruvannamalai who diagnosed his problem as `Seizure syndrome' and reported that the patient had a weeklong history of fits. Before further examination could be done, he died on the night of September 10. The death was not caused by consumption of DEC tablets, Dr. Vadivelan said.
