NIZAMABAD, SEPT. 12. A shepherd, Bal Singh (15), of Shyamrao Thanda under the Banswada police station limits was found murdered and his sheep stolen by a suspected gang operating in the Banswada forest area. The Banswada Sub-Inspector, B. Sankaraiah, said the body was recovered from Nallagutta in Siddhapur forest area today at around 7.30 a.m. After post-mortem examination the body was handed over to his parents, he said. Giving details, he said the boy, as usual, went into the forest to graze his sheep and goats yesterday. As he did not return in the evening, his parents, along with villagers, ventured into the forest to search for him. The body bore axe and knife injuries indicating that he was killed by robbers. The way in which the body fell suggested that he offered resistance before being hacked to death.
Divergent views
While Mr. Sankaraiah said that it could be the handiwork of certain criminals belonging to Chadmal village, the villagers suspect that some surrendered naxalites, who were indulging in thefts, might have committed the crime. The villagers registered their strong protest with the Officer on Special Duty, K. Koteswar Rao, the Banswada Deputy SP, Madhukar Rao, and the CI, Manohar, when they visited the spot for their alleged apathy in controlling the gang's activities.
