Meat-free days

MANGALOREMANGALOREMADIKERIMYSOREMYSOREMY, SEPT. 12.SEPT.12.SEP All slaughter houses in the city have been ordered to remain shut on September 18, on account of Ganesha Chaturuthi, and October 2 on Gandhi Jayanthi, according to a press release issued by the Mangalore City Corporation. The order has been issued as the State Government had declared these two days as meat-free days.

Fellowships

MANGALOREMANGALOREMADIKERIMYSOREMYSOREMY, SEPT. 12.SEPT.12.SEP Mangalore University has invited applications from Scheduled Tribe/Scheduled Caste candidates for Ph.D. fellowship, according to a press release.

The applicants should have secured a minimum of 50 per cent marks or B+ grade and should be below 30 years of age. The last date to receive the application along with a Rs. 50 demand draft is Sept 23.

The applications should be submitted to the Convener, SC/ST unit, Administrative Block, Mangalagangotri, the release added.

Felicitation

MANGALOREMANGALOREMADIKERIMYSOREMYSOREMY, SEPT. 12.SEPT.12.SEP The Kodagu Gowda Samaja Federation will felicitate elected representatives belonging to Gowda community on the Gowda Samaja premises here on September 15, president of the Federation, T.M. Nanaiah, said here on Sunday.

D.V. Sadananda Gowda, MP representing the Mangalore-Kodagu constituency, the Somwarpet MLA, B.A. Jivijaya, and the Madikeri MLA, K.G. Bopaiah, would be felicitated, Mr. Nanaiah told presspersons. The former Minister, D.A. Chinnappa, would be the chief guest.

Protest march

MANGALOREMANGALOREMADIKERIMYSOREMYSOREMY, SEPT. 12.SEPT.12.SEP Dr. Rajkumar Abhimanigala Sangha, Mysore, will take out a protest march tomorrow seeking the implementation of the demands placed by the film industry before the State Government. A release said that the Government should implement the demands that had been handed over by the thespian, Rajkumar, on behalf of artistes, producers and directors.

The procession will commence from Anjaneya Swamy Temple in Mysore Palace and will proceed to the office of the Deputy Commissioner where a memorandum would be submitted in this regard.

Talk on Linux

Heart camp

MANGALOREMANGALOREMADIKERIMYSOREMYSOREMY, SEPT. 12.SEPT.12.SEP Vikram Hospital and Heart Care here will organise a heart check-up camp and public education programme on heart diseases for economically poor sections of society.

A release said that the programme, sponsored by cine star Vishnuvardhan, would be held at Kalamandira on September 17 between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
