DHARWAD, SEPT. 12. Rich tributes were paid to the late Mallikarjun Mansur, one of the titans in Hindustani music, on the occasion of his 12th death anniversary in his hometown here today. The Minister for Municipal Administration, S.R. More, said that the late Mansur was not only a model but also an inspiration for the present generation of vocalists. M.R. Gautam, former Vice-Chancellor of the IKS University of Madhya Pradesh and a well-known vocalist, who was felicitated on the occasion, recalled his association with late Mansur and a range of discussions they had on the different facets of ragas. Vinay Kulkarni, Dharwad Rural MLA, Veeranna Mathikatti and Basavaraj Bommai, MLCs, also spoke. Prahlad Joshi, Dharwad North MP, presided over the function. The meeting started with the observation of a one-minute silence in memory of Krishna Hangal, who passed away recently. Gourav Gupta, the Deputy Commissioner welcomed. Rajasekhar Mansur, son of the late Mallikarjun Mansur, proposed a vote of thanks. Later, Padma Talvalalkar (vocal) of Mumbai, Chote Rahamatkhan (sitar) from Goa, Balachandra Nakod, Kaivalya Kumar Gurav both from Dharwad, Priyadarshini Kulkarni (all vocal), and Hafiz Khan (sitar) participated in a programme in paying musical homage to the late Mansur.
