Navy deploys flotilla in Gulf
NEW DELHI,
SEPT. 12.
In a forward deployment, India has positioned a powerful naval flotilla comprising guided missile destroyers, stealth corvette and submarines in the strategic Gulf area. A Navy spokesman said "overseas deployment" in the Gulf would be for three weeks and was an exercise that the Navy undertook from time to time.
The task force, comprising six warships is being commanded by Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet, Rear Admiral P.S. Pye.
It would be divided into two groups with one visiting Muscat, from September 13 to 17, and the second the strategic Iranian port of Banfer Abbas on the Makram coast from September 14 to 18. PTI
