BANGALORE, SEPT. 12. It took a gentle reminder from the former Minister, B.K. Chandrashekar, to the Minister for Industries, P.G.R. Sindhia, to recall that the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat, Bangalore, had been promised "deemed university" status. Mr. Sindhia responded by saying that the Government would set in motion the procedure for this to happen soon. "Bureaucracy functions at its own pace, dealing with an inanimate object is referred to by them as movement of files. In this case, the file does not seen have moved much," Prof. Chandrashekar said. Mr. Sindhia and Mr. Chandrashekhar were participating in the presentation of awards to artists, instituted in memory of M. Vererappa and Jeevaraj Alva. The M. Veerappa Award is in memory of an artist-entrepreneur who studied art the JJ School of Arts in Mumbai and went on to become a great artist. The award was presented to G.L.N. Simha (66), who was trained in painting murals and specialised in portraits and has held several shows. The other award recognised the love for art possessed by the late Jeevaraj Alva who was a patron of the parishat. The award went to M.J. Kamalkashi who has combined skills in traditional Mysore paintings with a happy felicity for modern art.
