Guntur
By Our Staff Reporter
GUNTUR, SEPT. 12. The Guntur-II MLA, Tadisetti Venkata Rao, did what the Guntur Municipal Corporation could not do in the past one year, by getting roadside encroachments removed from Brodipet in the city.
Encroachment
The main road and lanes in Brodipet have a persistent problem of the road margins being encroached upon by small-time vendors, making the traffic flow difficult, but the city Traffic Police and the GMC never took any action to get these removed permanently. On Friday evening, a few police constables removed a vegetable kiosk opposite Hotel Ravi Shankar in the fifth lane of Brodipet.
Questioned
When the vendor questioned the act of removing his kiosk alone, the police said that it was the Guntur-II MLA who wanted it to be removed. The MLA's action was being termed as vindictive looking at the background of the kiosk owner. A Telugu Desam Party supporter, he was the sole bread earner in the family with this shop as the lone source of revenue. Sparing other such vendors in the adjoining lanes and main road raised many eyebrows. The vendors were prepared to clear the encroachments provided they were shown alternative place for conducting their business. The MLA would do a service to the citizens if he prepares a practical action plan in association with the GMC and the police to remove such encroachments by settling them at a proper place, they said. The key issue, however, is that against how many encroachers or defaulters does the MLA propose to take action instead of targeting small fish.
