All schools to be computerised: Minister

By Our Staff Reporter

GUNTUR, SEPT. 12. The Minister for School Education, Nedurumalli Rajyalakshmi, has expressed satisfaction over efforts by the Katragada Foundation in Chiluvuru village in Duggirala Mandal, which has donated computers to schools.

The Minister organised a meeting of headmasters and teachers of all schools in the mandal on Sunday and asked for their feedback on the status of the education in the mandal. She announced that the State Government would computerise all schools in a phased manner and introduce computer education in them.

In addition to Chiluvuru, the Government had introduced computer education in two schools in the mandal - Revendrapadu and Peddapalm - under the 1,000-schools computer education project. The school's English teacher, Srinivasa Reddy, told the Minister at the meeting that the Azim Premji Foundation's Computer-Aided Learning Compact Discs were very useful.

`Internet useful'

He said that the Internet connection had come in handy to many teachers in these two schools in improving their method of teaching and changing it from the traditional to technology-based. The children were being taught M.S. Office from 7th standard to 9th, while the CAL CDs were being shown to students of the 6th standard, he said.

Ms. Rajyalakshmi called upon headmasters to take an interest in improving the standard of education and indicate their requirement so that projects could be tied up with donors like Mr. Katragada Krishnaprasad, who has promised to adopt the entire Duggirala mandal by extending the facility at Chiluvuru to 18 other schools.

The Principal Secretary Education, I.V. Subba Rao, the Commissioner School Education, Chakrapani, and the District Collector, K. Ramakrishna Rao, were present.
