MADURAI, SEPT. 12. The 17th conference of the Madurai Kamaraj-Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Teachers' Association (MUTA) will be held in the city on September 25 and 26. The theme will be the `right to strike is fundamental'. The convention will deliberate on various issues concerning teachers and honour the `heroes of July, 2003 struggle'. Talking to presspersons here, A. James William, president, and R. Manoharan, general secretary, said special lectures and debates on the right to strike would form part of the conference. The CITU State general secretary, A. Soundararajan, and other union leaders would address the delegates. Prof. Manoharan said the office-bearers of several teachers' organisations, the Principals' Association, the college managements' association and students' associations would take part in the deliberations on the first day. A rally has been arranged on September 26 to coincide with the inauguration of the conference by the West Bengal Education Minister, Kanti Biswas. The `heroes of July 2003' will be honoured by the Madurai MP, P. Mohan. A souvenir will also be released. Prof. Manoharan said the repeal of the ESMA and the TESMA is one of the issues that would come up for discussion. S. Vivekanandan, organising secretary, said an exhibition on the MUTA's history and a mini-marathon race for school and college students would be organised.
