APHB `breaks' promises

Sir, — I am one of the allottees of a flat in the Singapore-type township being developed by the Andhra Pradesh Housing Board (APHB) at Pocharam.

Now APHB is deviating from the promises made at the beginning of the project. For example the cost of the flat includes parking place as per the plans and brochures distributed by the board, but now it is asking the allottees to pay Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 40,000 for parking place. The first phase of the project should comprise of only 1,000 flats but the board has increased the number to 2,090 without intimating the allottees resulting in many problems to us.

Need for flyovers

Sir, — Traffic on the Vijayawada highway, especially between Nalgonda crossroads and L.B. Nagar, has increased at a rapid pace and traffic congestion at Kothapet, Chaitanyapuri and Dilsukhnagar up to Nalgonda crossroads is a regular feature during peak hours. I request the Chief Minister to consider constructing a flyover from Mahboobganj grain market at Malakpet Municipal Colony to TV Tower and another from Mosarambagh to Kothapet traffic junction near Ramakrishnapuram Rythu Bazar.

Provide a bypass road

Sir, — The traffic junction at Rotary Park towards Tank Bund on the Secunderabad side has become a bottleneck and the road cannot be expanded due to presence of places of worship on both sides.

However, the authorities can provide a bypass road towards the water area of the Hussainsagar or a flyover on the waterbed behind the park.

Flight to Kochi

Sir, — There is no direct flight to Kochi, an important commercial hub. I request the Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, Air Sahara and Air Deccan to start direct flights from Hyderabad to Kochi. The running time is almost the same as that to Mumbai or Delhi and I am sure that the Kochi flight will be economically viable than those to Guwahati, Bhubaneswar and Dibrugarh.

Revise ISD

fax rates

Sir, — The Department of Telecommunications had fixed the ISD fax charges at Rs. 110 per A-4 sheet when the ISD call rates were Rs. 72 per minute. Though the ISD call charges have now been brought down to Rs. 7.20 per minute, the Telecom Service Centre of Hyderabad Telecommunications still still charges Rs.110 for faxing each A-4 sheet. I request Hyderabad Telecommunications to revise the ISD fax charges.

Bus shelter

Sir, — I thank the APSRTC authorities for providing a halt a Shivapuri Colony -- between Saroornagar Bus Terminus and AWARE Hospital -- in response to my letter published in these columns. Though a bus shelter was constructed at Saroornagar bus terminus, it does not provide adequate shade and there is no provision for seating. I request the authorities to look into the matter and also set up a board indicating the departure timings of the services.

Clarification

Sir,— With reference to the letter published in these columns ( The Hindu , dated 6.9.2004) regarding payment of property tax, I would like to clarify that demand bills for 2004-2005 were dispatched during July and August 2004 by ordinary post under certificate of posting as stipulated under the provisions of Section 633 of MCH Act, 1955.

A public notification was also published in a section of the media on 21.08.2004 explaining the statutory provisions of Section 633 of HMC Act, 1955 and informing tax payers that if they have not received the property tax bill for any reason by that time, they have to contact the Deputy Municipal Commissioner concerned, obtain the details and pay the current year's property tax before August 31, 2004 without payment of penal interest.

The MCH has extended the last date up to 15.09.2004 without payment of penal interest.
