80,000 Railway jobs planned in two years

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 12. The Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad, today announced that 80,000 personnel would be recruited over the next two years to ensure safety and security for railway services.

Speaking to reporters after the two-day conference of general managers of Zonal Railways to chalk out strategies for implementation of the Railways-related promises in the Common Minimum Programme, Mr. Prasad also promised that all vacancies for SC/ST and OBC would be filled soon.

He said a super-fast train with a speed of 150 km an hour would be soon launched between Delhi and Agra.

Trains with a speed of 130 km. an hour would be introduced in other parts of the country by the beginning of next year.

In addition, all district headquarters would have railway reservation facilities within the next two years and the `Village on Wheels,' the common man's `Palace on Wheels,' would be launched by next month. The details for the project were being finalised, he said.
