Attack: three arrested

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, SEPT. 12 . The Kazhakkoottam police have arrested three persons in connection with the armed attack on the office-bearers of the Keraladityapuram Residents Association on August 29. The Circle Inspector (Kazhakkoottam), P. Reghu, identified the accused as Sangeeth (24), Ani (24) and `Pulsar' Rajan alias Sajan (18). He said Sajan had revved his bike while the national anthem was being played to mark the culmination of the residents association meeting on August 29 evening. The office-bearers of the association warned Sajan in this regard. The CI said that Sajan in turn hired the services of the accused to attack and injure the office-bearers the same day night.

FRAT festival

The cultural competitions organised by the Federation of Residents Association (Thiruvananthapuram), FRAT Utsav 2004, would be held at the Senate Hall on October 9 and 10. The members of FRAT have been invited to participate in the various events being organised as part of the association-level competitions. The cash price for the winning association ranges from Rs.20,000 to Rs.50,000, an official release said.

Plea to police

The AIYF has urged the police to arrest those responsible for the theft of sandalwood trees from the premise of the Kanakakunnu Palace. In a press release here, the AIYF district president, Manoj. B. Edmana, said sandalwood tree thefts had become rampant in the district. He said the AIYF would march to the DGP's office if the police failed in protecting the lives and property of citizens.

DYFI march

The district committee of the DYFI has decided to stage a march to the Government Secretariat on October 13 to protest against the education policies of the State Government. In a press release here, the DYFI alleged that the Government was commercialising the higher education sector. Professional education had become unaffordable to poor students during the United Democratic Front rule, the DYFI alleged.

Coop. societies

The Kerala Thozhil Vedi has decided to start cooperative societies to undertake various job creating activities, an official release said.
