SALEM, SEPT. 13. A labourer, whose wife lost her leg in a road accident recently, alleged that police indifference had led to delay in granting of compensation. Syed Ibrahim (45) of Sanniyasikundu said that a lorry knocked him down and also his wife Suraya Begum (34) when they were returning home after work a few weeks back. In the accident, Suraya lost one leg. Later with the help of a few local auto drivers, Syed identified the lorry, which caused the accident. He provided the registration number of the lorry to the police while preferring the complaint. But, Syed said that the police had registered the case as "one unidentified vehicle" caused the accident. Hence to seek justice and compensation, Syed brought his sick wife on his back to the Collectorate here today. He also met the Collector A. Sukumaran and sought his help.
