LONDON, SEPT. 13. Thousands filled Trafalgar Square here to see the once-banned silent movie Battleship Potemkin set to an electronic score by the Pet Shop Boys in a celebration of political protest, especially recent anti-war demonstrations. Some 12,000 people endured drizzles on Sunday to experience the 1925 silent film projected onto a 50-feet screen with a live performance by the Pet Shop Boys backed by the Dresdner Sinfoniker orchestra. Potemkin is considered a masterpiece, but was banned in the U.K. for nearly four decades because of its positive portrayal of the Russian Revolution. An opening segment before the film highlighted the more than 20 anti-war demonstrations organised in Trafalgar Square since the beginning of the war in Iraq. AP
